Stylish Menu Card for Zaffran's Cafe & Restaurant

So much difficulties but the job is done with perfection. I designed a Menu Card, 20 page menu card for a restaurant and they asked for leather or raxin cover and the logo should be Metal & embossed. Size was also odd, it was 12"x9" (inches) not possible to print on Digital Machines. But at the last I did it. Everybody knows that leather cover cost too much so I used hard board paper for it's binding. I purchased Silk Black Paper from Sona Papers (importers any kind of texture sheet) and also purchased imported textured sheet for inner 20 pages.
Now, I need to print it. The complete size of print was 24"x9" and most of the digital machines run 12"x18". So, for this I printed the job on Konika Digital Machine which runs the paper size 13"x40". Prints was great, colorful and lovely and we know if we use any imported sheet then we never go for lamination because of the paper feel. So, I gone for varnish on both sides.
The most difficult part was it's binding, I gone to binders but no one was doing it because of the quantity, so I paid more the binding because I had only 20 copies to be made. They took the time, one day time for the binding process and the result was great. Menu was looking so nice, now I final touch was remaining. The metal Logo on the cover.
For metal logo I gone to Asian Watch company, Delhi. They creates the watch material in silver, gold and bronze too. It was a good alternative to get it printed from there. They print letter size sheets and my 20 logos was printed on two sheets in golden. I pasted the logo over the front and it was looking elegant, classic and beautiful menu cards...

Indesign Stroke or Outline Issue

I faced this problem a lot while working with InDesign CS3 and formatting books, magazines. I tried searching answer to this for quite some time but in vain. I asked other experts who are using InDesign CS3 long before I started using it, I searched Google for answers but none of them could answer my query. One day I decided to find the answer of my query on my own. Though it took me some 2 long hours to find the answer but finally I did it. So here I am sharing it with you all thinking it might be of your help too. Please read full article to know how I did it.

Line Highlighted in RED SQUARE is not same as other lines. If its stroke size is changed, it does not work and match with others. It automatically change to 0 (zero).

Red Square shows a Line which stroke size is different from other lines.

IT IS VERY SIMPLE TO CHANGE OUTLINE SIZE AND SETTINGS. TO CHANGE THE LINE FORMAT LIKE OTHERS FOLLOW THESE STEPS...  

• Select the Table with Text Tool.
• Press Right Click with Mouse and Go To Cell Options and click on Strokes and Fills. (shown in red color)

Press Right click after Selecting the Table

• Cell Options Panel will show to you.
• Now change OPTIONS that are tick marked as I have changed in below given image. (highlight with red color)

Screen Printing Disasters

Working with Laser Transplant (Golden or Silver Color)

It was a bad experience when we sent some business cards for Laser Transplant (In this process a laser print, print the metal on single sheet and after that we stick that on the Paper, on visiting cards or letter heads.) Process. After that we had to print the name and company address on those visiting, one more thing the logo also had Green and Blue Color on it. That too we want to print by screen printing process. But that was not working because the position of logos pasted on cards was not same and it was impossible to print it by Screen so, we hired a painter and he did it manually. It was expensive to do it by this way. So we need to first screen process and after that we send it for print by leaf printing, or laser transplant. 

Edge to Edge Printing Problems in Screen

Once I designed a letter head for a corporate firm, I wanted that colored from the most left side. Then I sent it for screen print. You all know that we get readymade paper (Rim) for Letter Head. But my printer spoiled that job and the reason was that we need to give some space, some white space on the corners of page. We can not print on the corners. That can spread the color on the backside of paper. If you are a screen printer you will be aware about this thing.
So, if you ever want to design a cut flash letter head for screen. Please don't print on the readymade rim. First you need to purchase full sheet that will have extra margin, like .5 inch extra on left, bottom, top and right. Then give your cut flash design to print on it. Send it for cutting machine. And you letter head is done. This is only way to print cut flash letter heads on screen print.

Don't use more than 3 colors in any job

Never use too much colors in the visiting cards, letter heads, stationary items, envelopes, etc. if you want them printed by Screen. Because the process is manual. Every time for each color, a printer pick the paper and print on it. And that will loose the sharpness and new look of your paper. May be some can spread on your paper. I face this problem for Envelopes. It was looking old by going 5 times printed (5 colors) by screen printer.

Time Taking Process

If you have many more items to be printed as you have a greeting card with quantity of 5000 then never go for screen, it is manual and time taking process. You need to go for Offset for this kind of jobs.  It is clear that if you have more than 3 colors to be printed on a greeting and the quantity is 1000 then too go for offset. But you need to know about the specialty of screen and offset. I will describe in the next post soon...

New technologies are coming out in the printing industry, UV coating or Laser Embossing be it. UV is advanced and affordable technology, which can make any print more attractive. Lamination just like it but it is wilder technique which is very clean. First we get printed the sheets and then go for UV coating process.   In UV Coating process spray equal amounts of polymer on paper. UV's brightness is better than Lamination, and the adhesive on the paper can not be lowered. Nevertheless, it is cost-effective techniques.

Scaling PDF Size with In Design

Why to Reduce or Enhance Document Size?

I got a job, it was tough but done smartly. Job was to Enhance Page Size of a News Magazine. Old size was 7.75 inch, width and 10.75 inch, height. New size was 8 inch-width and height proportionally to width. There was 100 editions of magazines with 16 pages in each edition. File was in Pagemaker 7 format. You can understand how much time will take to do that. But I used Adobe In Design to do the job. 

Below is the tutorial showing how I did it. I hope you will learn a new trick by reading this post.

Required Software

• Acrobat Professional 7 or latest
• Acrobat Distiller 
• Adobe InDesign

How can we create the PDF in new required size?

• First of all open your document with InDesign and press Ctrl+P to print the document.
• Change your General settings as shown in image below.
• Change Printer to Adobe PDF

• Now go to Setup Option. See image below for Print Setup Window (Shown below).

• Change the Paper Size in the new size, We have changed it in A4 because our new document size will be printed on A4 Size Page.
• Change Scale in new size. We have changed it to 108% proportionally.
• Change Page Position as you want. We have changed it in Centered.
• Now click on Print Option and follow some steps as we create a PDF in InDesign.
